Hello all,
I collected several shells when I vacationed at Myrtle Beach several years ago....since then they have been in a box in my attic. I would like to add some to my FOWLR tank. Is it do-able?

Thanks
Dave

They should be OK just make sure you clean them off real good. I`ve read that most people that add them to their tank boil them to make sure they are clean.

Actually, I would pass on adding any shells that you collected several years ago. Unfortunately now a days sand and shells found on beaches are contaminated with so much toxins that are not only dangerous to fishes but the live rock as well. Myrtle beach, from when I remembered was littered with cigarette butts and those poisons cannot be so easily removed. In my opinion, I just wouldn't want to risk it straight from the beach, but then again I don't know if boiling would be able to make the shells sterile.
