Should the surface of a DSB be level or wavy?

Is it a toss up as to having your DSB somewhat level or wavy?

Reason I ask is I'm getting ready to add the cleanup crew for the diatoms, and don't know if it would be a good idea to level out the DSB surface which would probably cover some of the diatoms over with sand.

does not make any difference... My reef is flat and my fowlr is wavy... the water current in the tank makes it what it is..
