Few posts ago someone mentioned pistol shrimp. I would completely disagree that they kill fish and other shrimp. Only the mantis shrimp would do that.

I have a candy cane pistol shrimp paired with a Yasha goby. The shrimp is only 2 inches and bolts back in his burrow whenever any other fish come by. I think this symbiotic relationship is the most fascinating in our hobby. Please look into getting a pair you won't regret it.

This is my Yasha haze goby and candy cane pistol shrimp pair. Really hard to see the pistol in pics he only comes our when goby is guarding burrow and constantly working so hard to catch in a pic. By far my favorite part of my reef tank.

You can disagree all you want... there are videos of pistols killing shrimp on youtube. And countless stories about it on the different forums. They literally have a weapon... this did not evolve for scaveging leftovers, dead things, etc.

That said, you may get lucky and never have a problem. But... when I have 300lbs of live rock in a 240 gallon with 7 $30 cleaner shrimp I dont think I will take the chance.

Framing in the bar this week and starting on the electrical. I will have two 20amps just for the system.

Almost finished framing in the bar...

Have you considered painting something or covering something with vinyl etc that you can remove for maintenance? You're obviously handy... you could build a little lip at the bottom of the base and cover a thin sheet of wood and then use a few clips at the top. It would press up against the back tight and look as if it were painted. Then maintenance would be clearly visible.

yea, I think its gonna be difficult no matter what though. plus I usually have rock all the way up the back wall and the glass spaces between the rock gets covered with algae anyway.

Ordered 7 frags today for $70. green slimer, pink bird nest, ora chips, blue tubbs, ninja turtles, warp speeds, and green bay packers.

this is amazing, and what I want to do in 10 years when i have a house! Sending this link to my GF, she would love an aquarium behind a bar (mainly for the bar :p )
