Starting up again

So after not having a tank for a while I am going to start a 20 gal FOWLR. Just to keep up on whats the latest technology, the Aqua C Remora is still a good choice, Right? Are there any new H.O.T. skimmers that are superior to the Remora?
Also, since this will be FOWLR, should I put a small supplemental mechanical filter to run some carbon as well?

Oh, I live in San Francisco now, so if anyone from the Bay Area know what LFS are decent let me know.

The Remora will be an excellent skimmer for a 20gal

You wont need any supplmental filtration unless you go short on your LR. Of course running a carbon filter will allow the water to be less yellow over time expecially if you are long between water changes.
