Still have air bubbles

I am still having problems with air bubbles I shut my air cap for about a week and they disappeared but as soon as I open it back up they came up again idk what to do I was told it might be cuz of it's a over hang protien skimmer instead of a in sump protein skimmer but I don't have room for a sump tank idk what to do
