Tank size minimum on betta?

Hello everyone! I'm thinking about getting a pretty male betta and I don't have a different tank so I was going to buy one... Is there a tank size I need for a betta? All advice appreciated!

Your in the saltwater fourm,...but bettas are known for being able to live in vases and stuff that dose not mean they like it. It would love a 10 gallon tank but dose not need a water volume that large to survive but it would be much happier.

I believe he's talking about a saltwater betta or comet. A 55 gallon tank would be enough to house one.
