I'm just getting started and I'm a little confused here, what test kits kits do I need? I have calcium, alkalinity, phosphate and nitrate. I fish only right now but down the road I wanna have corals in my tank too.

Sounds like the API Reef test kit. Decent for corals, but other than the Calcium test the rest are pretty inaccurate. But they will give you and IDEA what your levels are trending.

But for a fish only tank, you need the Master test kit which does pH, Ammonia and Nitrite as well as nitrate. Again, the ammonia may not be very accurate at low levels, but it does give an idea what it is doing. good for the cycle and once your tank is stabalized, it will give a warning of ammonia issues. Nitrite test is fine. pH reading is a little low (at least mine is by about 0.3), but once you get the correction, your OK (compare to a test from your LFS for reference).
