Used protein skimmer

I just got my used swc 150 protein skimmer. My tank isn't set up but I was wondering if I could test it out and make sure it works

Yes you can. throw it in a bucket with water and turn it on . you have to use saltwater though. Freshwater will not produce micro bubbles.
