What the heck is that

I am in the process of cycling my tank.(which is almost done THANK GOD hahaha) I was looking at my live rock in the tank and noticed little brown plants growing out of the rock. It was in clusters all over the rock. They were brown with little duster/frilly (best i can explain them hahaha) things on the top of them.

What is it?

It looks like a colonial hydroid. But i cant imagine where it came from. Not only that it says that they pack a sting. I was handling that rock yesterday and i did not get stung.
