I will be away from my home for 5 days... how long can my oranda go without eating? He lives alone in a Biorb and right now he eats about 15 Hikari pellets a day. Is there anything I can feed him that he won't eat all at once, and that won't make my water dirty?

There is no magic "5 day" food ....

Goldfish will do fine up to a week without food, esp. if you keep the temp lowish (say high 60's for an oranda.)

Just feed well before you go, and do a water change as well. Ideally, you would want someone to check in on the fish at least once during the 5 days, but you *probably* will be OK without. <I am assuming the fish is fair size. Frys will not do well without food for such a long time.>

Goldfish won't eat hornwort ... anacharis might work, duck weed is even more palatable ....

One other option I thought of - get an automatic feeder - a battery powered device that feed a pre-measured amount of food daily.
