I have a 29 GAL FW tank with 1 Black Molly, 1 Neon Sword-tail, 1 Balloon Ram (was sold as juvenile GBR but I came to find out he's a balloon ) & 1 Powder Blue Dwarf Gourami.

My water test has been stable for past 20 days as shown bellow:

29 GAL (Marineland with penguin Bio Wheel filter 200) - 7 weeks tank
PH 7.5 (LA tap water w/Prime)
Ammonia 0.0
Nitrite 0.0
Nitrate 5.0

I would like to get 5 more fish (Kuhli Loaches).
Later (few weeks if water test permits) I am planning to finish my community by adding 5 more Glass Ghosts.
"USED AqAdvisor for stocking on MATURE SIZES"

AqAdvisor - marineland

Am I ready in your opinions?

:thanks:

Kuhlis can be somewhat sensitive in a new tank. You can fit them into your tank, though. They have a relatively small bioload. How much of the sand substrate do you have? That would be their preference.

Sand is mixed with small gravel except the little road by the Greek Relics which is sand only, see picture :)

If there are any sharp edges on your gravel, they will rip their bellies. Kuhlis glide along the substrate on their bellies so require a smooth surface. Also, you shouldn't expect your lovely sand road to look lovely too long with kuhlis in the tank. ;)

Lol ... Ty ...
The reason why I would like to get them is because I cant get a Black Ghost due to the tank size, but I want to get something with similar look and night eating habits :) any other suggestions?

My kuhlis are out, night or day. I don't think they got the memo about being nocturnal.

Hmmmmmmm, I'm not sure what else to recommend. Hopefully others will chime in about snakey looking critters.....

Here are pics of my substrate, the one with the road is from the 29 GAL and to other two that seems sharper are from my 10 GAL with 4 Corries (see one Panda in the pic, very curious) and they seem to be okay.
Please advise.
:thanks:

That colored gravel seems very smooth so I think you'd be okay. The kuhlis would need an area where they could burrow beneath something like a piece of driftwood though.

Okay sounds good. I have that big tree that has a huge cave in the middle and another smaller cave to the far right if the fish tank. The dense plants I have on the right side have lots of hiding spaces underneath. But if need be I will modify and replace something with a drift wood. How can I tell if they are okay with the current hiding places? What behavior should I look for? Also can I get different colors, like 3 striped and 2 black, I know I need minimum of 4 or 5?
Thanks a lot, it seems like you are the only Kuhli specialist online at the moment lol.

 far from a specialist, but I do try to tune in to the environmental needs of the various species I have.....

I think your plan sounds good. If you don't see the kuhlis at all, then you'll know they are not as comfortable as they could be. This might mean they don't have easy access to their hidey holes. Sometimes just moving things around a little works for them. You're getting a good number of them. I personally wouldn't recommend less than 5, as they seem to find great comfort with lots of buddies.

Surprisingly, I have found a personality difference between the black and the striped. The black ones were out right away, not shy at all. The striped ones literally tooks months, even though there were now a combined dozen in the tank, to feel safe enough to be out at all times.
