I am wanting to get my 55 gallon tank back up and running for my 3 year old son. I was wanting to do nice size schooling of smaller fish and have one main fish like a beta or something colorful. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what types of fish would be good for that?

Exotic or common fish? What temps do you have gear to run? Planted ok?

So for a little kid (or those of us who never grew up)....

8 Norman Lampeye Killifish
20 Dwarf Emerald Rasbora
20 Celestial Pearl Danio
6 Ammano Shrimp
1 or 2 Apistogramma Borrelli

Lots of color and motion, with the glowing eyes of the lampeyes. These are fun fish with some real action. They are harder to find... so.. I can come up with other options.

My family enjoys watching livebearers and their fry.

Also enjoy corycats and mystery snails.
