I would look into getting a Fluval 406 canister as that would give you a bump with your Magnum. I use 3 Fluval 406 canisters on my 220g.

Fluvals are great filters but overpriced IMO. The rena filstars/xp are cheaper and more powerful with less money to spend. I have a rena xp4 on a 55g and its amazing.

And I would go with community planted tanks as those are what I usually keep . Plus they are more interesting and have a lot more fish/plant options than keeping cichlids.

Yeah I have the xp3 on my 55g it's great .. Only just bought t and I'm very impressed
