The process takes less than 30 minutes. Turn the lights out in the tank. Rinse the bag from the store under tap water and wipe it dry. Put the bag into the tank and remove the rubber band. Secure the bag by laying the hood lid over the opening and float it a few minutes, so the bag water is the same temperature as that in the tank.

Every few minutes, open the bag and pour a little of your tank water into the bag and close it. After 20 minutes or so, pour most of the bag water into a separate container and put the bag into the tank and allow the fish to swim out. A little bag water will get into the tank, but don't fret over it.

Turn the lights back on in the tank and feed all the fish a little.

You're done.
