Adding peat filtration to an established tank?

This is a random popped into my head question, not a wanting to do question *lol*

Can you add peat filtration to an established tank? I'm assuming going slow would be how to do it if you decide to go that way so the water chemistry changes slowly as you add more over a period of time.

I have heard this can induce spawning in Rams. I would like to know as well...
