Yeah, they are genectically modified somehow and I don't like them either. The green ones were actually white skirt tetras before they were modified.

Oh okay, I thought they were dyed. Still, I think they look kinda funny. Not natural anyway. But, if that's what you like, go for it.

Yeah, I don't like them either. Gives me a feeling of having artificial fish swimming around my tank. Especially ruins a nice planted scenery when a group of them pops out of nowhere and is just too "fake".
 
I read that glofish are either bred that way (from paret glofish so no "modification") or the eggs are injected with a gene from a jellyfish to create a new batch of glofish. There is a website that explains it. Just google glofish.
