Ammonia questions

All I can find is a clear ammonia which the label says its ammonia hydroxide and surfactant will this work???

no.. ammonia hydroxide .. no surfactants or dyes. Ace hardware has worked for folks.

I've used the blue ribbon brand ammonia from the dollar tree. When you are out looking at ammonia just look at labels and shake it to see if it bubbles.

Air bubbles that pop quickly are OK. If it foams you probably won't want to use it. I think you can get ACE ammonia online if that helps: Ace Ammonia

Yes you could try Walmart too, or a dollar store. Just read the ingredients.

should say ammonium hydroxide and nothing else. With luck it might give the concentration as well, but that would be just crazy

So I found some stuff at a dollar store that says ammonia and does not foam when shook up

Sounds like the right stuff. Do you have a way to do small measures and can you figure out how much you need? (it will be small amounts at a time)

Well I have a 46 gallon bow front tank and last night I had to put about 50ml to get it about 2ppm does this sounds right

50ml sounds pretty high to me. I have a 46 bow, and I have to dose it with about 1 teaspoon (not an actual measured teaspoon, but a small spoon). That is probably 1-2ml I think. I will check a little more thoroughly tonight when I dose it. Also I would guess it has to do with the concentration of the ammonia. I have the ACE brand stuff which is 10% as far as I know.

I have a old medicine drop and it gets about ten drops out if 1 ml which is hardly none but my ammonia is from a dollar store does lot tell me the concentration level but it took like two hours to get it to 2 ppm
