I have a 55g tank. Currently has mollies and platies (10 fish total).

Wanted to know if I could add Betta fish to a community tank with these fish? Also should it be a male or female, or 1 of each? I hate seeing Bettas sitting in a cup and wanted to rescue 1 or 2 if they would get along with current stock.

Thanks for the feedback.

I wouldn't most bettas don't do well in the average community tank. If you have low flow and floating plants it would be acceptable though, and I mean almost no surface movement

Some betta's will go after platy's. I've tried a few different betta's in my 75g with plates, mollies, angels, neon tetras, pleco. Just recently I found one that loves it and holds her own in this tank. She's older and I have floating plants too. So, imo, it all depends on the betta and set up of your tank. My angels chased, nipped at the others I tried. But the girl I have now will go face to face with anyone in my tank. It's funny to watch. Note, my angels are very good size too.
