I have been keeping a fish tank for a long time, but only recently fully got into the hobby. I live off of a well so our tap water is extremely high in KH and other minerals. I have gotten the pH down to a healthy 7.4 and it took about a week of constant monitoring to do so. When using the API KH test kit my aquarium's water is at around 23 degrees dKH. I am aware that this is off the charts high, however the GH is only 4 dKH. In the past I have tried and failed to lower the KH, using water from supermarkets and more. My question is this - do I have to lower my KH or can fish live happily at 23 dKH? My understanding is that it doesn't effect fish but only makes it harder for the pH to change. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
