Can you add Eco-Complete Plant Substrate to an established tank? I was thinking of topping my gravel off with it to give my plants an added boost but wasn't sure if this could cause any issues since the tank has cycled and going great.

Root tabs will give you the boost that you are looking for with your plants. As to adding eco complete, I honestly wouldn't bother unless you are doing 50/50 eco complete and regular substrate.

But just adding it to an established tank there's no problems.

If you are wanting a boost, I agree with Mebbid that root tabs are the way to go. As far as I know, Eco doesn't really have many nutrients actually in it, it just has a high CEC so it is able to absorb nutrients from the water column.

Mebbid has a great post on here for diy root tabs. I did mine just slightly different using just the Osmocote plus fertilizer from Walmart and filling the 00 gel caps.
