Can you have too much ammonia when you're cycling?

My ammonia's through the charts right now cause I put a ton of decaying plant matter in there. Should I take some of it out?

yes. try to shoot for around 4ppm, if you get it too high it will slow down or even stall the cycling process.

I would remove some of the plant matter and do a PWC to get the ammonia down to 3-4ppm.

Thanks, that's what I just did, will test ammonia levels in an hour or so.
