I am thinking about setting up a shrimp tank and I am wondering which is the better option: Cholla wood or Driftwood. I am going to be putting in Red Cherry Shrimp.

Thanks!

I'd say cholla wood. Has tons of little holes and hiding spots. Way more than driftwood. Driftwood also releases tannings, cholla does not. Cholla may take a few days to sink, but after that you're good to go!

I've kept both with shrimp along the way and they definitely seem to prefer cholla. I do soak mine outside the tank before adding it.

Another plus-at least for me-is that cholla is considerably less expensive.

Regarding cholla, does it eventually break down like grapewood? I've only had it a few years at best. No signs of deterioration.
