No nitrites after cycling for seven weeks. Doing 30 to 50 percent water change every couple of days to keep ammonia down. Could my bio wheel be getting to dry during water change (takes about 20 to 30 minutes from start to finish)?

The bio wheel will not get it to dry during that length of time. Do you have a place where you can get some used bio media from a tank that has been cycling successfully? If you do that's a great starter for a new filter. If not try one of the chemicals designed to help start your cycle such as Tetra SafeStart

Welcome to AA!!

Is this a fishless or fishin cycle? What are your exact numbers for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph? We need some more information in order to be able to help!
