Today I noticed that nitrites were being produced in my fish in cycling tank. They were at .50 ppm and ammonia was at 1 ppm so I did a 30 percent water change and now ALL the nitrites are gone. This has happened to me twice now and they havent returned for days. What do I do?

Nothing, just keep monitoring levels. The bacteria may have processed the smaller amount, or there could be a testing inaccuracy. As long as there's something producing waste then you'll have nitrifiers present eventually.

Just keep any eye on it and continue those wc. And try not letting those numbers get that high. Its very bad in your fish. You really need to be doing 50-75% wc daily. Make sure to match temp and to dechlorinate the water.
