i have a 10 gal with two skirted tetras and one lamp eye tetra, the tank is 4 weeks old. have a lot of ammonia, no nitrites or nitrates. shoul i use fw aquarium salt while i get it cycled. i am doing 25% pwc daily to keep down the ammonia which is almost off the chart.n once i get the tank under control can i put a dwarf gourami in the tank or would he mess up the other fish or will that be to many fish.

Salt isn't going to cycle your tank, it really only should be used as a disease treatment (not preventative) when the fish are ill.

Do not add more fish to the tank while it is cycling. Wait until it is done.

The salt can be used during the cycling process as it helps aid against nitrite poisoning. It wouldn't hurt to add it, but only at the recommended dosage.

I only use salt as a medication. It won't help for cycling or keeping the fish stress-free.
