I am going to be upgrading my tank in the next few weeks. How long would I have to cycle a 12 gallon without like a kickstart? How long would I have to cycle if I put my biological in my existing tank for a week and then throw it in my new tank?

You would need longer than a week, 3weeks would be the minimum amount of time i would keep it in there for but longer if possible.

Completing a cycle without anything can vary. 5weeks is a good guide line. If youre doing it in the next few weeks put it in now or swap some old for new.

I upgraded from a 40 litre to a 155 litre, just hooked my already cycled filter straight up to it, left it overnight and it was fine. I put my turtles in there the next morning, never had my ammonia or nitrites spike, also only have 10ppm nitrates.

You left a filter over night and then removed it or left it there permanently?

Oh sorry for the confusion, I left it running on the new tank before putting the turtles in, and kept it running since then :)
