dark water

I just added water into my tank that already had fluval stratum as substrate. I noticed that the water was very dark and almost black. i turned on the filter in hopes that it would clear up and still no luck.. any ideas ?

I've read that fluval stratum is a volcanic based product and that once the black dust gets stirred up it might take a complete day to settle.

This is accurate. Actually most plant friendly substrates need to either be filled via drip or bubble wrap methods to reduce turbulence and then still need time to settle.
