eclipse-2 pump not pumping makiny awful noise

hi all been a while I got a tank for some one it's got an eclipse hood on it the kind with the pump/filter and all she can't get it to work it makes all kinds of sounds like an old car trying to start we took it apart and found nouthing when water in poured into the place where water is suposed to come out it stops makimg noise then starts again when the water stops but still dosn't pump we tryed cleaning it but it didn't help she sais that their is a tap on the impeller going twords the body of the pump and she think's it's catching on the tab comming away from the pump or something

It doesn't sound like it's being fully primed to me. Is the tank it's on full?
Make sure, then take a pitcher or a bucket and dump directly into the intake/filter area to make sure you get a good prime. More water for the prime, the better.

the tank is full up and we did dump water into the place that's suposed to spit water out it stoped making noise but didn't pump then when the water stoped it made noise again we even heled it under watter it works when the pump is heled side ways but when it's upright it makes noise and stops

It sounds like the impeller might not be sitting properly. Something might be off balance and rattling around, rather than spinning smoothly.
