Hey guys. I am getting a 45-55 gallon hexagon corner tank (they aren't sure what size) from a family member. I have my eye on this filter from Petsmart (Aqueon® Power Filter QuietFlow 55/75):

Aqueon® Power Filter QuietFlow 55/75 - Sale - Fish - PetSmart

What do you think? Or can anyone recommend something else. I have a aqueon filter on my current tank and I a pretty happy with it. Not familiar with any other brands.

Planning on putting African cichlids in the tank.

Most folks recommend aquaclears for HOB filters. I have owned aqueon and aquaclear, and I tend to agree they are a bit quieter and a bit higher quality than the aqueons. The aqueons work just fine though for what they are.

Either the Aqua Clear 70 or the Fluval C4. They are both made by the same company (Hagen), only the Fluval C series are a more modern design.

The Aqueon filters aren't terrible, just not very good at retaining biological filtration (bacteria) when you change the cartridge.
