I have 125 gallon freshwater
Fluval fx 5
Filter came with bio balls (blue plastic). I currently have them in bottom filter tray My middle tray is empty and top tray has carbon and fine filter pad.
Would it be okay to add Fluval bio media (white ceramic) to middle tray. Or would that over do it??

Is your "fine filter pad" the only mechanical filtration you have, because you need mechanical filtration before the biological filtration

I would recommend:
mechanical(sponge or floss)>biological(bio rings)>chemical(Carbon,etc)>fine filter pad

Make sure the water goes through the mechanical filtration before anything else and fine pad last :)

If i remember the fx series flow is up through the ring mechanical, then center top down to the output pump at the bottom, I would go bio, bio, mechanical. if your doing it right you probably wont need carbon.
This is how im going to setup my fx6 when i get it anyways.
