I gotp my API test kit today, and the PH is reading ~8. Tap water reads at almost a perfect 7, but around 7.6 after aerated for an hour. The heat is set to 76-78.

I also took an ammonia reading and it was i think in the 1 ppm range! :( I am going to keep doing daily partial water changes (someone please tell me if I shouldn't, as I'm paranoid and new so I feel like this will solve my problem lol) of about 8-10 gallons -- is that too much, too little? I'm holding roughly 30 gallons of water after displacement.

Sorry, as I probably deviated off of my original topic, but I just hate to put the fish in jeopardy!

Thanks very much, that's what I needed to hear! As long as the water changes won't interrupt the cycling of the tank, I will keep doing them and testing daily.
