Freshwater???

So i have a 110 saltwater aquarium in my living room and was going to set up a 20 gallon spftie tank in my room. Now im at a debate of setting up a salt or freshwater 20. Can you guys help me out? Whats it like? I was thinking planted. Dont really understand fresh that much. Thank you
