glofish tetra questions

My sons (ages 5 and 7) like Glofish, particularly the tetras.

Despite their ridiculous price tag, I might be willing to try them.

I realize most tetras prefer to shoal/school, will the glofish school with any other color and/or a regular black tetra? They're all the same species, but do the colors throw them off? (I'm not sure they even see color...).

If so, I might get 2 colored 'Glofish' ones (one for each kid) plus maybe four "regular" black tetras for them to school with.

Watch their behavior in the store. If they are schooling, you should see all the colors schooling together.
That said, schooling is more a protective measure the fish use so just because they aren't schooling doesn't mean they won't. It may just be that they are more comfortable in their surroundings so they don't feel the need to school. They will stay within eyesight of each other "just in case" of danger.
