I have a 200 watt adjustable heater. Is it sufficient for a 45 gallon community tank? If not, what size you I need? I live in SC and it never gets very cold here. My indoor summer temp is around 71, average winter is 67.

Thanks! I've Googled and searched but only seem to find brand recommendations.

200 watts will be fine for a 45 gallon tank. The rule of thumb is 3 - 5 watts per gallon. Some of it depends on what temperature you need to heat your tank to, but if you are around 76 - 80 degrees, 200 watts will be able to handle it. If the difference between the tank temperature and room temperature is just a few degrees the low end of the 3-5 watts rule applies but if the different is greater you would be at the upper end of the rule.
