I am setting up my first cichlid tank. It will be a 45 gallon bow front and I am hoping to stock 2 german or bolivan rams, 2 angelfish, a redtail or rainbow shark and a small school of harliquen rasbora. My first question is, does this mix work?

Second question is regarding decorations and substrate. I would like to have real plants. Currently I am using eco-complete plant substrate in my 10 gallon tank and it works great. Can I use the same type of substrate in the 45 gallon tank? I've heard that sand may work better for cichlids. Can you plant directly in sand? I don't think I want florite and then sand.

Finally, any suggestions on other decorations (caves, rocks etc) would be great.

Thanks in advance!
