Currently there are pomacea diffusa, planorbid, and physid snails in there. I believe the worms are planaria? They sound like the discriptions, it says they come from too much uneaten food but I don't feed enough to have uneaten food.

Your out of my area now but I am almost positive the gourami feast on planaria. Research and if so maybe you could just add a gourami into that tank and clean up that problem. I don't know about getting rid of hydra. But were it me I think I'd just bite the bullet and start the tank and live through a new cycle. I don't do those kind of critters very well.
The little bugs actually seem to be nematodes. I still have some unanswered questions so if someone could answer them that would be great..
