HOB filter cleaning

Seems like my filters get dirty pretty quick and impede the water flow. Plus the pipes get all slimy and slick. What's best to get all that slime out of the pipes?

Pipe cleaners. Get the bigger diameter ones, they work wonders. I use them in my AquaClear 50's all the time.
