I'm cycling the, hum... "QT tank" , you know ... I'll through a few new fish there just to "test it".

I used water from my 30 gal, had the filter running in the old tank for a week or two, and I through in there the very disgustingly dirty filter pad from the Penguin.

The NO3 is between 5 and 20 (reagent vs strip) NH3 is and always has been zero.

Is it cycled? Am I supposed to have some NH3 readings?

Thank you.

If it is cycled you won't have ammonia readings. Since you seeded the filter first by putting it on the main tank, you shouldn't have to go through a cycle. I'd just leave it in the main tank until you need it.
