Hello,

I'm a week into a fishless cycle on a new 10 gallon tank. Tonight I purchased a Marimo moss ball. The lady at the store told me it could help to add the bag water that the moss ball came in. I know that most of the bacteria live on surfaces, but with a new tank, every bit could help. Is this a good idea or could it lead to parasite / disease problems later on? I don't have any fish in there now to harm and plan to do a major water change at the end of cycling.
Thanks in advance

On the VERY slim chance that there was some sort of parasite in the moss ball or in the water, it would not live very long in your tank because you do not have any fish in your aquarium to host it.
On the other side of the argument, I don't think there is any significant benefit to adding the tank water, so why bother/risk it.
