Maintaining the bio filter

Greetings!

Thanks to Eco23's fishless cycling guide I just finished a textbook cycle on a lightly planted 5 gal and moved my little betta (Jonah) into his new home.

He seems pretty pleased, if slightly confused by all the sudden real estate.

To clarify on the plants: couple of small anubias, a java fern, and a water sprite that is not looking like it's going to make it - also considering some moss to help with nitrate absorption.

My question is: will he alone generate enough waste to keep the bio cycle running or should I consider adding an additional occupant or two?

I'm cautiously optimistic about a snails chance in there with him (he's... feisty), but I've sadly written off shrimps. I think they'd just end up as dinner.

the beneficial bacteria regulate themselves.

Most of the BB will die off except what is needed to handle just the betta's bio load. So you don't really need to do anything.
