I'm currently in the middle of a fishless cycle right now, the nitrates have just started to show up. I've had the lights off in my 10 gallon like the guide said however I had to dose the ammonia back up to 4ppm and noticed the water has a yellowish tint to it. What is causing this?

I have one piece of driftwood but I boiled it like the forum said to get rid of the tannins.

Am I doing something wrong here?

*Edit* Does the ammonia being added do this to the water?

It's probably the driftwood; some wood can leech tannins for a while even after boiling/soaking. I've never seen or heard of ammonia tinting the water.
