need alot of advice on filters/media

I have 2 marineland bio wheels.
So I guess I had it in my head I wanted to not use their cartridges that it comes with.. But I'm not finding anything another option to buy... How do you guys do it? I've heard good things about purigen, but not sure how it would go in filter!
Any help or pics would be great!

You can buy a sponge from a lfs or even the grocery store that would be reusable. Also at most lfs stores they sell 100% polyester fiber in a big bag that you can stuff some down into the filter. You.can also buy even bigger bags at a fabric store if ya wanted. That stuff is pretty cheap and a bag should last a year at least. If you use carbon, bio balls or rings or anything you van place that in old panty hose or a reusable mesh bags sold at lfs.

I bought this! I put that in and some poly fill.. Good or bad? Will the poly break down that I'll have to throw away?

Nope it will rinse pretty easy but you will have to their it out and replace with new eventually
