Probably going to pick up a new 55 Gallon tomorrow; it is a slightly smaller size than I was planning, but the deal may be too good to pass up. This, of course, completely changes everything lol.

So, I ask; stocking suggestions and ideas, anyone? I kind of want to go with predominantly New World Cichlids, but may be open to more of a variety of cichlids...though I am unsure if I want to mix Africans and Americans with this one. Anyways, any ideas, American Cichlids or otherwise?

And on another note; on average, how many bags of substrate would you recommend for a 55 gallon? Just trying to plan things ahead of time and get an idea for things...thanks everybody!

Mixing New World and Old World cichlids isn't a good idea. They like drastically different water.

With cichlids, I'm assuming you're not going to plant the tank. A 50lb bag of sand would cover the bottom of a 55 nicely.
