Hello everyone I am brand new to the forum and this is my first post. For the last month I have had a 40 gallon tank cycling. I currently 4 platy and a fry I see every once in awhile. I have been doing 20 percent water changes with prime every other or every two days and I cannot lower the ammonia in the water it stays roughly at 1ppm. with nitrate and nitrites at 0! I also have a sick platy which will be the second one to die!

Have you checked the ammonia in the water out of the tap. It is not uncommon for tap water to have some ammonia.

Also, if the tap water is fine, do a large 50% water change. It will not affect the cycle.

Yes, it does have ammonia In it. I did a 20 percent change today and I always add prime. I'm treaty a sick platy so I can't change water agian for a couple days.
