I am going to move my son down to a 10 gallon. He was at a 20 but upstairs and on the laminate it make us nervous.

He currently has
6 glo danios, there were 9 but we lost 3 suddenly during a tank switch over :(
4 glo light tetras

He also wants a snail. I was thinking some guppies (all male). I am currently researching but was also looking for any gotchas I might over look.

Forgot to mention I am probably moving the danios to my 28 or 75.
Thanks!

That should be fine. The danios will need to be moved to a bigger tank, but the glowlight tetras will be fine. A snail or two will benefit the aquarium, as they eat algae. However, they eat plants as well, so if it's a planted tank don't get one.

What about just moving the twenty downstairs? All you have to do is this-
Place filter media in bucket of water with the gravel
Place fish in a separate bucket
Place decorations in with gravel and media
Empty tank and move downstairs
Refill
Start filter and heater
Add filter media, gravel, and decor
Add fish
