Is there a "best" sand? I am planning on using Fluorite capped with about a half inch or so of sand. I am planning on using easier plants. What type of sand should I be looking for?

I used play sand rinsed and dumped out water quick after stirring it up ... Did it several times and looks good plus is cheap

My 29g has petco brand black sand and my 40 has black diamond blasting sand. For the cost black diamond every day and the plants like it too,

I'd go with pool filter sand, sandblasting sand, or play sand. How to clean sand THE EASY WAY!
1) get a bottle
2) fill it with sand
3) place the bottle full of the sand in the tank (submerged in water)
4) wait for the bubbles to stop
5) dump the sand out making sure the bottle is completely upside down. All the floaty and nasty stuff in sand will stay in the bottle
6) take out the bottle without letting the bad water out.

I've used play sand, pool filter sand and Petco sand. My fav is the pool filter sand, different companies have slightly different shades from almost white to tan.

Pool filter sand is so easy to wrk with, my Pleco digs mine up every night so every morning I have to level it back and it just drops right back ,no mess, which is a good thing !
