Sand and fry

This may be a silly question but I need a 5 gallon aquarium and I was wondering if I got sand and put fry into it, would they eat it? Its seems like sand is small enough, but I've never owned that instead of gravel.

No the fry wont eat your sand being inorganic it wouldnt appeal to them at all so ur safe.
What kind of fish are we talkin about?

Just mollies and maybe 1 batch of guppies (well, going to TRY and get just one) :p

Pool filter sand is what I use in my fry tank and ive never had a problem.
