setting up a 5ft 500 liter tank ideas?

Hi I've just brought a new tank, I know I want a cuple of African rope fish but have no idea what else so ideas please, I've kept small fish for years mollies guppys etc but would like to start getting involved with some larger species hence new tank

Also what substrate is going to be best sand or fine gravel?

I would just do a single rope fish honestly. Some cool fish to go with it would be 10 Congo tetras and a Featherfin catfish. You could probably add an African leaf fish in as well.

Thought the rope fish were better in groups/pairs

That would work to I was thinking of bichir my bad! 3 rope fish in there should work Idk much about them they might need a bigger tank.

So need to get this tank up and running and still have no idea what to put in it or whether to go with sand or gravel
