Black Tahitian moon sand. It's pretty expensive (around $30 for a 25 gallon bag) but it looks amazing. I imagine if it's deep enough you could grow plants and it's great for cories and other cats. It's pretty easy to clean too! I have it in my 56 gallon rainbowfish tank. I also have some cories and a pictus cat too.

I use organic dirt with a pool filter sand to cap it.

May the force be with you.

I would go for Eco Complete. Expensive outlay but great for planting and my Corys don't suffer barble wear even though they dig all the time.

Eco-complete makes a fine grade now also. Its more like sand and is great for growing plants. I personally like black sand or Eco-complete but some of my tanks have pool filter sand too. All are easy to clean.
