I'm somewhat new to the aquarium scene. My daughter won a goldfish at a carnival so we bought her a small tank for it. Since then we've moved up to a larger tank.

We've had this larger tank for a few months now with no major issues until last month. But lately the pump has been sputtering.

It has a submerged pump and the section the pump sits in has become dry. I add water to this area but all it does is empty all the water back out into the main tank area. It never did this before and I'm at a loss for what is causing it.

Vie removed the filters and cleaned them but honestly, they didn't look dirty at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you don't have enough water in it. This is simply due to warmer temps now and evaporation. I would suggest adding a bit more water until it stops sputtering. I would also try to see if there's a mark on the overflow for a high/low limit. If you can, please post a pic so we can help you.

Thanks. That's what I thought as well so I kept adding more water. It stopped the sputtering but still kept emptying out in the back.

I tried posting a picture of my tank but I guess I can't because I'm so new to the site.
